Heretics burning

Fundraiser Time! Please Support Gender Heretics

There have been a few growing pains here at Gender Heretics lately because other than some kind support from a very patient host, this is basically a one-heretic show. Add rapid subscriber and audience growth, and you have a recipe for problems.

Just this morning, for example, I discovered that the newsletter plugin had hit a free signups limit that the creators had failed to mention before. Readers were getting error messages when they tried to join, or else just not getting any messages at all.

That is the second major SNAFU I’ve had trying to manage the list, but it’s fixed now. (I think.) The point is that whatever time I spend monkeying around in WordPress to make the site run smoothly is time lost for other kinds of (paid) work. And yeah, there is less of that these days, for all the usual reasons.

While I don’t mind the work, the costs are another matter.

I have also learned that Gender Heretics received some some DDoS attacks in the last two weeks. We shrugged that off easily, but only because I specified the need for a hardened site in the original build order. The person who does that for me is worth way more than I can pay them, and the more successful this site becomes, the more work I will need them to do.

I will also have to retain an attorney for the inevitable fraudulent DCMA takedown requests, copyright claims, and other assorted “lawfare” harassment tactics that I have learned to expect in the blog wars. This is someone who will not even talk to me unless I can pay for their time.

Given all the challenges ahead, I have opened a new fundraiser through PayPal. Please consider a donation of whatever size suits you and help keep this project going.

This website is not free. Servers cost money. Webmasters cost money. Protecting pages from hackers costs money. Back end support costs money. Please help support Gender Heretics!
